Can Lis, Jørn Utzon

Regular price 700,00 kr

Can Lis, Jørn Utzon, by the renowned publisher Apartamento, is a poetic study of one of modern architecture’s most iconic private residences. Built by Utzon for his family on the southern cliffs of Mallorca after his departure from the Sydney Opera House project, Can Lis is a masterclass in place-sensitive design. Nearly hidden among the island’s marés stone, the home seems to rise organically from the landscape, capturing the essence of Mediterranean light and sea.

Through Simon Watson’s evocative photography, the book traces how light moves through the compound’s stone corridors and arched windows, revealing a residence at once elemental and transcendent. Archival materials—from Utzon’s original sketches to family photos—offer a rare glimpse into the home's conceptual genesis and daily life within its walls.

The book also features a reflective essay by Jørn Utzon himself on his deep connection to nature, and an intimate conversation between his son Jan Utzon and Apartamento’s Robbie Whitehead, exploring the family’s life in Mallorca. Line Nørskov Davenport, director of exhibitions at the Utzon Center, contemplates the spiritual and architectural meaning of the house, describing it as a sanctuary shaped by horizon, wind, and stone.

With a foreword by Phillipp Materna of Ferm Living, Can Lis, Jørn Utzon is more than a tribute—it’s a profound meditation on retreat, vision, and the enduring dialogue between architecture and nature.
